Driving away from Coffs Harbour was bitter sweet. It felt like I was leaving so much behind, but it was also a strong springboard into what was ahead. As the familiar beaches, streets, shops, people disappeared behind us, I was full of different emotions. It was so interesting that I could feel so deeply in such a short time. They told me, “Love deep, hold loose.” I think I’m only beginning to understand how significant that will be this year…

The windows were down, the air was fresh, the breeze warm and strong. I sat there, eyes closed, smiling, just soaking in the moment. How does Australia feel? Weird question to cross my mind, but intriguing… How do I even express that? How can I put words to it? I chewed on it for a while, then asked Brent (the feeler), who was sitting next to me, the same question. Now we were both pondering it. Then it came to me. Allie’s Bug Spray. Yes, that captures it perfectly.

Ok that’s a strange thought, so let me explain. I’m not talking about the 100% deet kind that makes you gag. Allie brought an All Natural Bug Spray with her that’s made with a bunch of essential oils: lemongrass, cedarwood, clove, geranium, peppermint, rosemary & spearmint. It could have come to mind simply because it was leaking in the car, who knows. But I think it captured the feel of Australia perfectly – a combination of peace and wild energy, something that I also saw reflected in the crash of ocean on the rocks. Almost like menthol that you rub on your chest, both soothing and tingly all at the same time.

Australia was very relaxed, full of open spaces, room to move and breathe. It was so green, with plenty of trees and colorful flowers. Time by the ocean was therapeutic and there were so many places to explore. We had time to rest and be still. But at the same time there was a powerful energy that flowed through our team. You could see it as we served, hear it in our worship, feel it in all the conversations. We walked away, pumped, ready for what was next.

I know its been a while since you’ve heard from me. I think about posting often, but can never quite collect my thoughts or know exactly what to share. This post is simple, it probably captures something for me to look back on, more than gives you a grasp of what exactly I’ve been up to. But I think that’s ok. The Lord has been doing so much in me and in my squad!! Feel free to read through some of their blogs as well to get a different peek into life here. Also, I hope to post some pictures today, so be on the look out!

We have been in Bali for a debrief with our leadership for the past few days. It’s crazy, it feels like I’ve been here for a few weeks already! We have a few days of training coming up, then we split up into our teams and spread out!
